Selfish as a Shellfish

Shellfish can be very selfish,

Remaining clammed up

For hours,

And rarely communicating with their fellows,

Except when feeding,

And also when the call of love

Loosens their grip.

Then they open their shells a bit wider

Than usual,

To take a peek outside,

To see who’s around

And maybe say their hellos.
